Fundraiser Update

Friends,

I wanted to provide an update on the deLiver a Cure fundraiser that I referenced in my last post. This was put on by some really wonderful ladies with whom I currently work or have worked with in the past at T-Mobile. It was a delayed birthday present of sorts.

The event was a combination of a get together with tasty hor doeuvres and a silent auction. Speaking of hor doeuvres, my friend Liz made fresh spam musubis, and they were by far an edible highlight - I had 4 of them! For those who don't know what a spam musubi is, imagine a California Roll but replace the cucumber, crab and avacado with span seared spam and seasoning. This is a staple in Hawaii. They sell them at 7-11's and are considered quite the tasty snack! Liz made about 25 little musubis and they were gone by the end of the evening, so needless to say, others found them tasty too....Gina, was that you I saw sneaking one down the hatch?! :)

The silent auction had multiple donations that ranged from a Seattle Seahawks fan basket (plus game tickets) to a handmade quilt and pillow to wood carvings to a weeks stay at a cabin in Idaho (plus lift tickets to nearby Schweitzer Mtn). Each of the items received bids, some more than others, but I can say that it got quite tense when the 7:30pm deadline was approaching. There were some people who were determined to get their "prize".

In addition to the silent auction, people made general donations and were able to get a deLiver a Cure t-shirt and a neon green wrist band. I wear the wrist band every day as a reminder and a ray of hope.

Thanks to everyone's generosity, we were able to raise just about $5600 from this one event, all going to liver cancer research. Wow, that's incredile!

It was great to see folks I hadn't seen in a while and reconnect. It was also amazing to see the giving spirit alive and well. So humbling and refreshing to be the indirect recipient of all this goodwill!

Stay well,
Rhone
